A few myths about raccoons to clarify:

Raccoon repellent Toronto

There is no 100% effective raccoon repellent other than water. Once you have a pregnant raccoon set up nest on your property, she is likely to stay there for the next 4 months until her young have matured. Usually returning next year with another batch of youngsters.

Some raccoon repellents that are based on the scent of coyote or fox urine, only work for a short time. Once a raccoon doesn’t encounter either of these animals they return. The male raccoon will always be forced away by the female, once the babies are born. Unknown by most people, a male raccoon will kill and eat their own young.

Ultrasonic sound repellents are absolutely ineffective – better not to waste your money.

Frightened female raccoons will abandon their young

Occasionally female raccoons will leave some of the young when forced to move. Usually raccoon cubs after 5 weeks of age never get left behind from the mother.  With strong maternal instincts, mother raccoons have returned after being trapped and relocated. This is why it is so very important to remove both the female and her offspring together. Removal of young cubs and setting up a one way door is always the best method, mind you adding prevention is that much better.

The maternal instinct of female raccoon, leads good reason to call in the experts at AAA Sande Wildlife Control. Female raccoons may become aggressive or even attack when protecting her offspring. Of course not all raccoons carry rabies, however, they usually have roundworm or other parasites which can be harmful to pets and yourself.

At Sande Wildlife Removal of the Greater Toronto Area,  will physically remove young raccoon babies and place them in a temporary shelter, which of course the female raccoon relocates elsewhere. outside of their den for the mother to re-locate elsewhere. Once the raccoons are gone, we return to close up the door and complete any repairs.

We will then close off all entry and exit points (using screws, sheet metal and galvanized wire screen where necessary) to prevent other raccoons and different wildlife intruders from getting back in.
